Formed in 1988, Power Integrations (PI) is a Silicon Valley-based supplier of high-performance components used in high-voltage power conversion. In 1997, Power Integrations was developing a new power-supply chip called TinySwitch, featuring an innovative switching technique that enabled high efficiency at reduced levels of output. Since then, all of PI's AC-DC power-conversion chips have included this technology, known as EcoSmart. Since its introduction in 1998, Power Integrations' EcoSmart energy-efficiency technology has prevented billions of dollars' worth of energy waste and millions of tons of carbon emissions.
In addition to EcoSmart technology, PI's commitment to clean technologies includes investments in LED lighting, efficient motor-driver products and high-power gate drivers. PI's LED-driver products deliver the reliability and efficiency needed to help LED technology fulfill its promise to transform the lighting industry. PI's motor-driver products complement the efficiency of brushless DC motors used in many consumer appliances, while PI's gate drivers are vital components in clean technologies such as solar- and wind-energy, electric vehicles and efficient long-haul DC transmission. And PI's recent introduction of highly efficient gallium-nitride, or GaN, transistors—after nearly a decade of work and millions of dollars of R&D investment—is yet another major breakthrough in energy-saving semiconductor technologies.
Power Integrations' Innovations:
Power Integrations offers innovative technologies and services that set the new standard for efficiency and reliability.
PowiGaN Technology
PowiGaN is Power Integrations’ internally developed gallium nitride (GaN) technology. PowiGaN-based ICs achieve up to 95% efficiency across the full load range and up to 100 W in enclosed adapter implementations without requiring a heatsink.
Driving SiC MOSFETs
Silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs dramatically improve switching performance for high power inverter applications. PI’s new SiC MOSFET gate driver that delivers the highest peak-output gate current available without an external boost stage.
Reliability Services
Power Integrations gate driver products are available with factory-provided conformal coating and burn-in services that reduce total cost of ownership and streamline production.
Automotive Solutions
Electronic components meeting quality specifications established by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) are suitable for automotive use without additional component-level qualification testing. Power Integrations offers a wide range of AEC-Q100 or AEC-Q101 qualified devices.
Automotive Qualification
To ensure components don’t fail once they’re embedded in electronics systems, the automotive industry has developed strict quality standards for component manufacturing and testing. Only parts that meet these standards can be qualified for automotive use.
